Why I Use Supplement Plans with My Fertility Clients?

When you’re trying to conceive, the world of supplements can feel overwhelming. There are shelves full of multivitamins, fertility blends, and powders — all claiming to boost your chances.
But the truth is, there’s no single pill that works for everyone. That’s why I create individualised supplement plans as part of my wider fertility nutrition support.
Why Supplements Matter for Fertility
When sperm and egg cells are developing, they go through rapid growth and cell division. During this time, the body needs a constant supply of key nutrients. If there are gaps in nutrition, this can increase the risk of:- DNA fragmentation (affecting sperm and egg quality)- Longer time to conception- Higher risk of complications in early pregnancy .Some nutrients are especially important here: folate, vitamin D, iron, zinc, iodine and omega-3 fatty acids.
Supplements can help ensure these needs are met — but they should never replace food. They’re there to fill nutritional gaps, not to duplicate what’s already in your diet.
Why It Takes Two
Often the focus falls on the woman’s nutrition, but fertility is a journey for both partners. Sperm health matters just as much as egg health. Research shows that deficiencies in nutrients like zinc, vitamin D, folate and antioxidants can impact sperm quality, count, and motility. That’s why I encourage couples to work together. Supporting each other with nutrition and supplements not only boosts chances of conception, it also helps take away the sense of pressure falling on just one person.
✨ If you and your partner would like to feel confident about your nutrition while trying to conceive, you can [book a Couples Nutrition Assessment]. This gives you a joint consultation where we look at both diets, identify nutritional gaps, and build individualised supplement plans that work together.
Why I Don’t Do “One-Size-Fits-All”
It’s easy to feel like you should just “buy a fertility vitamin” and tick the box. But the truth is: if I had six fertility clients sitting in front of me, I’d likely recommend six different supplement plans. Why? Because:- Every person’s diet is different- Medical history and lifestyle shape nutritional needs- Men and women have different requirements- Some nutrients (like folate or vitamin D) may need a boost, while others are already plentiful in the diet.
💡 I don’t recommend supplements for nutrients you’re already getting enough of from food. Instead, I use detailed dietary assessments to check for nutritional gaps — so your plan is targeted, not generic.
How I Work With Clients
🌱 I meet you where you are. We start with your current diet, lifestyle, and goals — not unrealistic “perfect plans.”
📋 Dietary assessment to analyse your food intake and look at potential deficiencies. This means we can see clearly which nutrients you’re getting enough of, and which may need support.
💊 Targeted supplements, Supplements are only recommended where there’s evidence they can make a difference. That way, you’re not wasting money on products you don’t need.
💚 Whole-person approach. It’s never just about supplements — it’s about creating a food-first, lifestyle-focused plan that supports both sperm and egg health and aligns with your fertility goals.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to fertility, peak nutrition matters. Food provides the foundation, but supplements can play an important supporting role — especially when they’re personalised.
And remember: fertility takes two. Supporting both partners with tailored nutrition and supplement plans can make all the difference to your journey.
